Vendetta by Catherine Doyle (blood for blood #1) I stumbled across this book while in WH Smith. Now if you know me you know I'm obsessed with mafia romance books and basically anything to do with the mafia, because I like learning about their origins in Sicily. Because of this when I read the blurb of this book it instantly intrigued me. Not to mention five possibly hot brothers?! What the book is about- When five brothers move into the abandoned mansion in her neighbourhood, Sophie Gracewell's life changes forever. Irresistibly drawn to bad boy Nicoli, Sophie finds herself falling into a criminal underworld governed by powerful families. As the boys' dark secrets begin to come to light, Sophie is confronted with stinging truths about her own family, too. She must choose between two warring dynasties - the one she was born into, and the one she is falling in love with. When she does, blood will spill and hearts will break. Sounded right up my alley so I thought I'd pick it up, and it's safe to say I actually enjoyed it. I have to admit that in the beginning it was a bit slow and I couldn't properly amerce myself in the story, however once I did, I flew through it. The main female lead Sophie I found to be a relatable character, and not one of those annoyed cliché girls you read about in some books, who take peoples shit. I particularly liked her relationship with her best friend Millie who was a sassy, spunky British girl (yay). In this book I have to say I found myself not actually going for the 'main' love interest although hot damn he's swoon worthy, but another boy in the book. You'll probably know who this is if you read it #darkanddangerous ;)

I also loved in the story how you were never quite sure who the real villains were, because you were constantly guessing the secrets of most of the characters. For a young adult book, I was actually surprised at how dark it got towards the end due to the writing in some parts feeling like it was targeted at 14-15 year olds (or that could be me wanting steamier scenes like the other mafia novels I've read.) That being said as a girl of 17 the book defiantly intrigued and entertained me enough to order the next two books in the series. The storyline has lots of twists and turns that keep you on your toes and also makes use of the Italian language, which is one of my favourites, especially when spoken from the mouth of a tall, hot, manly brother. Saying this however don't expect a masterpiece with a hugely intricate plot. Overall I'd give this book 3 out of 5 stars. The other books in the series are: Inferno (blood for blood #2) Mafiosa (blood for blood #3) Lots of Love, A
